Guide to large online jigsaws

Large digital jigsaws are easier when the workspace is treated like a real table: sort first, build a frame and zoom only when needed.

Choose a suitable piece count

Start with 24–96 pieces when testing a new image. Photos with clear colour regions, strong edges and distinct objects remain readable at higher counts. Uniform skies, water, walls and soft gradients become difficult quickly. A 1,000-piece setting is best for a high-resolution image and a larger screen.

Build the frame

Use the Edges only filter to show pieces with at least one flat side. The Corners filter reduces the list to pieces with two flat sides. Place the four corners first, then fill the top, bottom and side borders.

Use the tray instead of scattering everything

Putting a thousand pieces on one digital table would create a dense pile and make mobile play almost impossible. Puzzle Parcel keeps most pieces in a paginated tray. Tap a piece to place it near the centre, or drag it directly from the tray onto the board. Use Scatter 30 when a smaller loose group is helpful.

Control the view

Use the plus and minus buttons, mouse wheel or pinch gesture to zoom. Drag empty board space to pan. The Fit button returns the complete image area to the centre. On small screens, zoom in only after the general location of a piece is known.

Use the ghost image deliberately

The faint image behind the pieces is useful for learning the interface and for very large puzzles. Turn it off for a more traditional challenge. The puzzle still checks exact positions either way.

Pick better source images

• Prefer landscape or portrait images with several visually distinct regions.
• Avoid important subjects at the extreme edge because curved tabs extend beyond each rectangular crop.
• Use a photo with enough resolution for the chosen grid.
• Do not share images unless you have permission to use and distribute them.

Mobile strategy

Mobile play is possible, but 1,000 pieces require frequent zooming and tray paging. A practical mobile range is often 96–300 pieces. Landscape orientation gives the board more width. The shared HTML file should be opened in a modern browser rather than inside a restricted file preview.
